David Dalton

Director of Latin American Studies

Dr. Dalton joined the faculty as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Spanish in August 2016, and he was promoted to Assistant Professor of Spanish in 2017 and Associate Professor of Spanish in 2021. His teaching and research focuses primarily on Mexican and Latin American literary and cultural production. He is especially interested in how science and technology interface with constructs of race and gender in Mexico and throughout the world. He has taught classes on narco literature and culture, the post-revolutionary Mexican novel, US Latinx literature and culture, the Spanish American Boom, Science and Culture in the Hispanic world, Latin American Cinema, Latin American Thought, and so forth. Dr. Dalton is also an active researcher in the field; he has published several articles, and a recent book with the University of Florida Press.
